Built in 1977 in a former brickyard, the Brickyard Mall was an urban regional mall serving Chicago’s northwest side. The multilevel, 1.1 million-square-foot mall was anchored by K-mart, Jewel-Osco, Montgomery Ward and JC Penney. The site was redeveloped into a big-box power center in 2003.
The demolition of the commercial mall structure included the tear-down and removal of one- and two-story steel-framed structures, and the excavation and removal of concrete parking decks/foundations and disconnection of all underground utilities in preparation for redevelopment.
